Kuranda By Car

By Car

Kuranda Village is situated high in the rainforest and mountains of Tropical North Queensland and travelling there is a wonderful scenic experience in itself. Hire a car to give yourself the freedom to move at your own pace.

Kuranda Village is a short 30-minute drive from both Cairns and Mareeba. The eastern approach from Cairns is a steep incline through the Kuranda range from the suburb of Smithfield. The mountain road twists and turns its way up from Cairns through the thick jungle of World Heritage Rainforest. The scenic drive along the side of the mountain provides breath taking views, rocky waterfalls and the buttress roots of giant rainforest trees. The western approach from Mareeba is a journey through fruit orchards, coffee plantations and produce farms, providing the perfect opportunity to experience more of what Tropical North Queensland has to offer.

If travelling from Port Douglas, you will find yourself driving through the vibrant rainforest and mountains of the Rex Range. This journey offers several lookouts where you can pull over and enjoy the tremendous scenic views. The signed turnoff leading to the Rex Range is via the Captain Cook Highway near the township of Mossman taking you approximately 1hr 40 minutes to the Kuranda Village.
