The Mission Beach Community Cassowary Festival is a weekend of activities celebrating nature.
The community, young and old are invited to participate by showcasing their talents and creativity through art, music and science.
A beachside marquee and stage hosts guest speakers, live music, competitions and performances, including an open mike for anyone with a message about ‘Mission Beach Naturally – a Magic Place’.
Stalls display information from groups or individuals working with the natural environment, particularly wildlife, sharing knowledge about the work they do. The focus is on ecologically sustainable tourism and/or wildlife protection, and products.
Local businesses join in the festivities by holding their own themed events over several days leading up to and following the main festival day.
The colourful creative event including the spectacular ‘Drumming of Cassowaries’ parade featuring life-size cassowary and wildlife sculptures attracts a large audience.
The festival promotes MISSION BEACH – naturally branding with a vision for an ecologically sustainable future, supporting locally owned and operated businesses and encouraging low impact tourism and development at Mission Beach”.
