How to ring in the 2023 New Year around Cairns

Still deciding what you want to do for New Year’s Eve? From fireworks to dinners, send off 2022 and welcome in 2023 with these celebrations near Cairns.

Cairns Esplanade

Fireworks on the Esplanade is a must.

Say goodbye to the year that was with a good old fashioned dose of fireworks. This year there will be two displays – a family-friendly show at 8:30pm and a second show at midnight. There will also be a a screening of the family movie “DC League of Super Pets” at 6.30pm.

Pack a picnic and find a spot along the Esplanade lawns, or take the stress off your shoulders and support local businesses by booking dinner at one of the many restaurants in the CBD.

If you live on the south side, there will also be family fireworks at 8.30pm at Walter Road Sporting Precinct in Edmonton, as well as a screening of the family movie “DC League of Super Pets” at 6.30pm.

Palm Cove

Spend NYE under swaying palm trees

Ring in 2023 in true tropical style with the sand between your toes at the seaside village of Palm Cove, just a short 30-minute drive from Cairns.

Wander back to your luxurious abode at one of the many resorts of this seaside village and wake up in paradise for the first day of the year. Book into one of the many restaurants and make your last meal of 2022 one to remember.

Palm Cove will have their own firework display at Palm Cove Jetty at 8.30pm.

Port Douglas

Port Douglas will have two firework displays, one at 8pm and one at midnight. The whole family can enjoy entertainment from 5.30pm, UV glow lighting, a kids disco, free face painting and food trucks prior to the 8pm family fireworks.

An array of restaurants will be open on New Year’s Eve (see full list here) and bookings are a must.

Whiskey and Wine Starry Nights

Make New Year’s Eve the most dazzling night of your year at Whiskey and Wine by Crystalbrook. Sip champagne under the stars to eclectic beats and a soft sultry summer breeze. A gourmet affair to welcome in the New Year. Situated on level one at Crystalbrook Flynn and overlooking the esplanade, Flynn’s Italian offers a sophisticated dining experience. With two delicious sittings available, enjoy an early dining experience or settle in for the evening and raise your glass to 2023 with us. Saluti! Both sittings include a multi-course Italian-inspired menu and a welcome drink on arrival. The early sitting is $85 per person and the second sitting is $140 per person.

New Year’s Eve at Boardwalk Social

We do love a good celebration, and what better excuse than giving 2022 the flick and bringing in 2023 with a bang? Enjoy gourmet bites, drinks, live music and most importantly, great vibes all night long from 7:00pm!

A CC’s New Year

Farewell the year that was and welcome in fresh beginnings. Head to CC’s Bar and Grill for a carefully-curated four course set menu, a glass of champagne on arrival and a three hour premium beverage accompanied by live music from renowned jazz singer, Chris Lloyds. $229 per person. Bookings are essential. Bar opens at 6:30pm for pre-dinner drinks.
