IRONMAN Cairns Asia Pacific Championship
Make way to the tropics for the iconic Ironman Cairns Asia-Pacific Championship and see why this triathlon was voted the World’s Best Ironman course by athletes in recent years. Sign up for the “race in paradise” and challenge yourself to swim 3.8kms, ride 180kms and run 42km. Prime your pedals for the ultimate bike ride along the palm-fringed Captain Cook Highway, swim off the coastal haven of Palm Cove and race to the finish line on Cairns Esplanade.
If you’re after something a little less intense, sign up for one of the 2022 festival events, which includes the Quicksilver Green Island Reef Swim, or browse the Cairns Sport & Lifestyle Expo on the Cairns Esplanade. Or if you fancy cheering on the athletes, head to one of the many vantage points.

Cooktown Discovery Festival
Make way to Cooktown for the annual Cooktown Discovery Centre to discover more about the shared story of reconciliation between Captain Cook’s crew and the Guugu Yimithirr people, on the shores of the now-named Endeavour River. The recorded discoveries of flora and fauna species are celebrated throughout the Festival’s program.

Northern Peninsula Area Cultural Festival
The Northern Peninsula Area Cultural Festival – Keep the Flame of Culture Burning travels between five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities: Injinoo, Umagico, Seisia, New Mapoon and Bamaga. A carved fire torch will travel between these communities to signify peace. This free festival showcases cultural dance, emerging artists, food and local arts and crafts. Guests can also enjoy carving workshops, art exhibitions, history walks and local tours to learn about the historical places within the Northern Peninsula Area

Laura Races & Rodeo
Head west after you’ve discovered Cooktown, to watch talented jockeys vie for position on the outback track, testing their skills and pitting their steeds against each other at the Laura Races & Rodeo on 24-26 June. Ringers and stockmen compete with rodeo riders who travel great distances for a chance to take home some amazing prizes and trophies.

Cairns to Karumba Bike Ride
Pedal from coast to gulf on this epic 780km bike ride from Cairns to Karumba on the ultimate cycling adventure. The bike ride raises funds for children’s education at small schools dotted along the ride route through five shires across the base of Cape York. Riders of all levels can participate, riding as much or as little as you want. Support vehicles, and a catering crew there to get you from start to finish.

Outback By The Sea
Celebrate the legendary barramundi at Outback by the Sea and “Get your country on in Carpenteria”. Relax on the undercover deck of the Les Wilson Barramundi Discovery Centre and toe-tap the day and night away to award winning country artists, including Adam Harvey, Raechel Whitchurch, Camille Trail and Neil Murray.
