Want to make the most of your time in the tropics? Ramp up your October by catching one of these fantastic events.

Savannah in the Round

Get ready for three days of the hottest acts in country music

When: 1–3 October
Where: Kerribee Park, Mareeba

Grab your Akubra and head to the Mareeba Rodeo Grounds for three days of the hottest country, blues, roots and rock acts at Savannah in the Round, with over 40 artists set to take the stage.

Country music fans will revel in this year’s lineup, which includes John Williamson, Lee Kernaghan, Kasey Chambers and Troy Cassar-Daley. Special guest stars, indie pop group, Lime Cordiale will take the stage on the Friday night.

The event includes an Indigenous cultural program, community entertainment, local produce and goods and a paddock to plate restaurant. Accommodation options include drive-in campsites, pop-up tent village and on-site glamping tents. There will also be options of transfers to accommodation partners in Cairns and Port Douglas.

The Grass Is Greener

When: 23 October 2021
Where: Cairns Showgrounds

Head to Cairns Showgrounds to dance the day and night away to some of Australia’s best music acts. The all-star Aussie lineup includes “Laps Around the Sun” star Ziggy Alberts, alternative dance group Crooked Colours, Winston Surfshirt and Young Franco.

Supported by Triple J, The Grass Is Greener hosts two stages of live Aussie acts and has food vans for fuel-ups between acts.

Babinda Harvest Festival

The street parade is a highlight of the festival

Where: Babinda

What started as the Babinda Sugar Harvest Festival 59 years ago grew to become the largest annual event on Babinda’s calendar. This country fair offers excitement for the whole family including tractor pull festival rides, entertainment and fireworks. This year’s theme is “under the sea”.

Like any good country festival, you’ll be stuffing your pockets full of homemade cannoli, vanilla slice and melting moments. One of the highlights of the festival is the crowning of the Sugar Queen, which has been an annual tradition since the festival’s inception in 1962.

Taste Port Douglas

Get ready for 3 days of fabulous food

When: 7-10 October 2021
Where: Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas

After it’s four year hiatus, Taste Port Douglas is back for 2021! Tantalise your taste buds at this three-day festival that sees foodies and incredible chefs flock together to celebrate the food culture and produce of Tropical North Queensland. Led by Spencer Patrick (Harrisons, Port Douglas), the festival will welcome chefs including Ben Williamson, Alanna Sapwell and Laura Sharrad for a masterclass in tropical tastes.

From a cocktail party to long lunching in the heart of Port Douglas town centre, a centrepiece dinner to a seafood extravaganza, festival village and street food flair, a bustling epicenter of foodie heaven across the weekend awaits in this breathtaking backdrop and tropical location.

Taste Port Douglas will feed the soul throughout its long weekend of fantastic food fare.

Tablelands Folk Festival

Dance the day away to your favourite folk acts

When: 22-24 October 2021
Where: Yungaburra

Catch the longest-running folk festival in Queensland at the historic village of Yungaburra. The Tablelands Folk Festival features over 50 folk music acts over four days, including East of West, Albi and the Wolves and Steele Syndicate.

Family fun showcases puppetry shows, including Danny’s Comedy Mime Puppetry and Magic Show, Pico’s Puppet Palace and Janggaburru, or you can enjoy a zen start to the day with morning yoga, taste craft beer and get your shopping fix at the markets.

Get involved in a number of workshops, including swing ukulele, looping and tin whistle for beginners.
